The Lone Sentinel – 2, Ruwais, Qatar, March 2013
It’s been 7 years since I joined WordPress and two years since I started this blog. It’s been an eventful journey. In just over two years and two months since starting this blog, I am here writing my 100th post. Managing this blog has been a great experience. Even a cursory look at the post history would show that I have been active and dormant in cycles, reflecting my shooting and writing history. I guess that is how it all works. I have gathered a good number of friends through this blog. Thank you guys/gals. Your comments really motivate me. Keep them coming.
The last month has been extremely busy with lots of shooting and another Magnum Photography workshop coached by Martin Parr. A quick view of his Magnum portfolio would illustrate his sense of sly humor shining through. There are times when you won’t stop bursting out in laughter when you look at his images. If you are in Qatar, please visit the Qatar Photographic Society’s galley in Katara to see Martin’s latest exhibition.
It was an honor to be able to meet Martin Parr and share his experiences. The photography workshop was fun with hands-on shooting followed by immediate feedback. If there was one thing I learned from this workshop that was a disciplined approach in shooting an assignment. I have to really thank Saeed Costa of Katara Art Studios for making this happen.
I have posted a selection of my recent images. I hope they illustrate the point ‘a picture is worth more than a thousand words’.
Just to write a little bit about the pictures, the first image, ‘The Lone Sentinel – 2’ was shot with one of the softest lenses I own, a Minolta 135mm F/2.8 lens. I used this with an adapter on my Panasonic GH1. The softness of the lens in fact enhanced the creaminess of the image. The lens threw some spots that I had to cleanup in Lightroom.

Love the post! Especially love the feline portrait and the parrots! The sketchy pic is also brilliant almost like a watercolor painting! Think I’ve mentioned it before!
Hi Liz,
Yes. You did tell me that the shadows pic looks like a painting. I’m happy that you like it.
